Higdon Immigrants from England
Over the years our Higdon ancestors left England for other lands. Here are a few of them. If you know of others, please let us know.
Peter Higdon born around 1617. Leaves England and is drowned in a shipwreck by Cape Ann, Massachusetts Aug 15, 1635. He was an indentured servant to Anthony and Mary Thatcher of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England. The boat name may have been "James of London".
Richard Higdon born around 1624 leaves England as an employee of Henry Brooke. First to Saint Mary's City, Maryland, then to Westmoreland County, Virginia around 1650.
Thomas Higdon born around 1645 has a son born in Barbados in 1670.
Daniel Higdon born 1651, he lands in Charles City County on the James River in Virginia. He first appears in court records 1677. He may have left Somersetshire.
John Higdon who lands in Saint Mary's City, Maryland. He first appears in court records 1693. He may have left Yorkshire.
Benjamin Higdon who lands in Trinity Bay Newfoundland Canada around 1750. He left Somersetshire. His father passed in 1749.
George Higdon b 1806, and nephew Clement Higdon b 1826, leave Lincolnshire. First to Courtland, New York, then to up state Michigan.
Percival Lorimer Higdon b 1903 Enfield, Middlesex, England marries Ethel Hatch in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada in 1947. Dies there in 1993.
