2016 Bay Head, NJ

Date

2016

Location

Bay Head, NJ

Our 40th meeting in 2016 was in Bay Head New Jersey. President Charles A "Chuck" Higdon hosted the event from the Grenville Hotel in Bay Head from October 13 to the 16th, 2016. We started our tour day with a stop at both the NJ Museum of Boating and Vintage Auto Museum of NJ. These two museums are in the same building. We then caravaned to Tuckerton to the Tuckerton Seaport Museum. We watched as a man worked on a duck decoy and he explained the process to make them. There were many examples in this workshop.

After lunch we headed to Batsto Village. It was a company town started in the 1700's to make iron. While there we got a blacksmithing demonstration and a tour inside the mansion. After walking around the village, we headed back to Bay Head. Saturday morning, we had our annual business meeting, after lunch tours on our own, then our banquet into the evening. Frank Mayfield gave a talk about Nell and his visit to the Western Carolina University. They have many scrapbooks about the Higdon Family Association. Then Chuck Higdon talked about what he learned after Ancestry did his DNA. How he was able to get past his walk and back to the Daniel line.
